Choosing the right racking for your warehouse

The practical questions to ask before specifying a new warehouse storage system.

Planning & advice · Rackstor UK Ltd

Start with your stock

List the dimensions and weights of the goods you need to store. For palletised stock, include the pallet type, overall loaded height and any variation between products. A storage system should be specified for the actual loads it will carry.

Consider your handling equipment

Your forklift or handling equipment affects aisle planning and access. Share its specifications with your racking supplier rather than selecting aisle widths in isolation. Include routes for people and other equipment when discussing the layout.

Plan for everyday operations

Think about how stock arrives, where it is put away and how it is picked. Fast-moving goods may need different access from slower-moving stock. A survey provides an opportunity to discuss these requirements before committing to a layout.
